*** Purely as an album experience I can't say there's really much that I can get out of this album. While this sounds like more of an album than "Ye", I don't really think I can say I enjoy it (more) as a result, as there's so much more to the narrative that makes up this album and it just brushes over me. It certainly hasn't gone to #1 in Australia because everyone was extremely excited to hear it. Many I presume are like me, and are simply curious to see what happens. I guess what makes this his least listenable album that I've heard it's that it's far **too** focused. What made "The Life Of Pablo" so great is that the chaos was channelled into a variety of different sounds, but outside of "Water" and "Use This Gospel", there is very little here outside of the religious content that gives the album any personality. I'm glad that it's short though, because if a lot of it is filler, at least it doesn't last for as long as it potentially could. 2.5 |
