***** I saw a WHSmith advert, and that was the first time i heard about Damien Rices new album. The next day I bought it.
This seems irrelevant but that is what Damien has managed to do to most of his fans, when i first listened to the album I was impressed.

The first song 9 crimes set a high standard for the rest of the album which a lot of people think was too high. i disagree. there were songs just as good throughout the album.

There was only one disappointment for me, and some will disagree but it was the way the chorus was done in Rootless Tree, it felt too unfamiliar to the rest of the album. In my opinion ruining what is otherwise a good song.

Lisa Hannigan appeared more in this album then she did "O" and she perhaps proved herself to not be just a backup singer, but good in her own rights.

It feels unfair to compare this album to his other as this album was not going for the same thing, but somewhat of a "darker" feel.

Ash Butter |
