**** The powerful storyline is quite engaging, and though I was somewhat disappointed that no real resolution was offered, that isn't really what the song is about. Alec offers support to a neighbour who may be suffering in a domestic violence situation, but isn't ready to discuss it. The low pressure approach is a good one, particularly when as mentioned in the lyrics he doesn't "have all the facts". In terms of the song, Alec's vocal and the guitar sound great together and suit the tone of the song well. The change of pace for the bridge is a nice shift and I love how it leads into a lyrically different final chorus. I do find it odd structurally that it's not a lyrically different chorus each time, because essentially he goes to visit his neighbour twice and they have the exact same conversation without either acknowledging that it's happened before. Some different lyrics in the second chorus would have made more sense in terms of how the song is structured, but that's a minor flaw in a strong track. |
