**** Even though I generally like their music, listening to Phoenix is sometimes a bit of a chore. Many of their songs never seem to catch on with me, which means every time I hear them it's like I'm listening to a song I've never heard before. I've always found that 'Lisztomania' and '1901' epitomise this. I haven't scrobbled them too much, but I hear them in so many other places and all I can manage to remember with any clarity is 'Lisztomania''s chorus and then the neat synth line of '1901'. It's borderline ridiculous. Over time this issue has been alleviated somewhat due to me becoming specifically more familiar with Phoenix, but getting back to the main issue at hand, I have to put even more effort in than usual = chore. All this being said, I can't criticise them too much; this is a decent release with nothing I wouldn't want to hear again. It's just that I may have to if I want to remember anything about them. 3.75 |
