Zur Veröffentlichung ihres besten Albums seit 15 Jahren konnte sich Sony es nicht nehmen lassen, eine unnötige Remix-EP herauszugeben. Ich habe mir die Freiheit genommen, jeden der fünf Remixe einzeln zu bewerten:

"Peeled Apples" (Andrew Weatherall Remix): einer von zwei Remixes ohne Gesang, aber im Gegensatz zum anderen Instrumental kann man erkennen, um welchen Song es sich handelt; der Remix dauert zwar doppelt so lang als das geniale Original, doch das Hauptriff wurde gesamplet und mit einigem Schnickschnack garniert. Gelungen.

"Me and Stephen Hawking" (British Sea Power Remix): der belangloseste Remix; der Refrain des Songs wurde verwendet und mit einigen etwas billigen Beats und Keyboard-Tönen zusammengesetzt. Durchschnitt.

"Facing Page: Top Left" (Adem Remix): die grandiosen Akustik-Gitarren mussten beruhigten, leisen Keyboard-Flächen weichen, aber hier wurde die gesamte Songstruktur beibehalten. Dazu hört man hier Fleet-Fuchsige Backgroundchöre und ein Glockenspiel. Schön.

"All Is Vanity" (Errors Remix): der Track auf der EP, welcher am ehesten dem entspricht, was die meisten Leute beim Wort "Remix" im Kopf haben: einige Textzeilen werden weggelassen, anstatt dessen gibt es ein paar durchschnittliche, unterkühlte Töne. Der Refrain gefällt dafür und beweist ein weiteres Mal, wie schön die Melodie bei diesem Song ist. Insgesamt aber nur Durchschnitt.

"Doors Closing Slowly" (The Horrors Remix): bei einem sollten wir uns einig sein: ein Remix muss immer Teile des Originaltracks beinhalten oder zumindest eine ähnliche Melodie haben, das ist hier aber nicht der Fall. The Horrors - Nicky Wires aktuelle Lieblingsband - haben einen Remix produziert, der so klingt, als wäre Pigfuck ein Elektro-Subgenre: die erste Hälfte ist Computerlärm, die zweite relaxte Dance-Musik á la Röyksopp. Mit "Doors Closing Slowly" hat das zwar nichts zu tun, ich finde trotzdem etwas Gefallen dran.

Alles in allem ist "Journal for Plague Lovers: Remixes" eine passable Remix-EP, die zwar keiner benötigt hätte, aber durchaus nett anzuhören ist. Gemittelte 4.
